Our Environmental Commitment

At CORE Communications, we have made a commitment to tread lightly on the earth we all share. In our efforts to be a successful and responsible business, we recognize the importance of being a good steward to the environment.

Memberships

We are an Oregon Natural Step Network member and we're implementing their principles for sustainable business. These principles offer the following framework, or conditions, for a sustainable society, requiring that we do not systematically increase:

  1. concentrations of substances extracted from the earth's crust;
  2. concentrations of toxic substances produced by society;
  3. degradation by physical means in that society;
  4. and, that human needs are met worldwide.

FSC Certification Number

We began implementation of Natural Step principles with the following changes to in our business. First, we became Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified and accomplished FSC Chain of Custody to supply paper which originates from responsibly managed forests, and/or controlled sources and/or post-consumer recycled fiber. Then, company-wide, we have a formalized, full-scale recycling and composting process. We upgraded our facility, installing new energy efficient lighting, hot water, air conditioning and air circulating systems. Taking it one step further, we exceed Renewable Northwest Project's Northwest Clean Energy Challenge for purchasing green power—in other words, clean electricity. Electricity produced from renewable resources such as wind, offsets the amount carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere and therefore reducing our corporate impact on global warming.

Our Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification is through SmartWood, the FSC accredited program of the Rainforest Alliance. As a result, we now have the ability to provide FSC Certified paper products through our Cascade Printing Division. The Forest Stewardship Council is an international organization. The FSC certification provides a verifiable method to ensure you have purchased paper that had been manufactured with pulp from responsibly managed, and/or controlled sources and/or post-consumer recycled fiber forests. We are required to provide "Chain of Custody" to track and label FSC Certified paper products. Our printing division, Cascade Printing, was the first FSC Certified commercial printer in Oregon.

To help you address your increasing sustainability challenges we provide the following options for your business needs: FSC Certified paper; process chlorine-free paper; tree-free papers such as that made from hemp; flax and kenaf fibers; 100% post-consumer recycled paper; and vegetable or soy oil based inks.

It is through these continuing efforts that we hope and strive to make a difference.
